Thursdays on the Coast, the Experience, Moves into the Night with Energy

Carlsbad, Ca…March 24, 2010 the skies opened up and graced a wonderful night in the Village.

Energizing the streets as the crowds gathered to “experience” opening night for Thursdays on the Coast, “The Experience”.  Music moved into the night with entertainment, artists and musicians.  A revitalized  village for the evening shared  a variety of visual arts and music bringing citizens and visitors to Carlsbad.

From the drum beating street corners, to toe tapping and dancing, to the beautiful songbird, Susan Rainwater, jazz vocalist.  entertaining at the art exhibition, “Color of Metaphor” at the Foundry Studios at New Village Arts, the event presenter for the evening, everyone was entertained.
Jazz with Benny Jackson played at a 10 Hour Gallery, with 37 artists, pulled together to open only for 10 hours, was wall to wall people and art.  Steel drum  music with Keli Ross-Ma'u and his troop entertaining a crowded street  corner on State and Grand Faire at HomeLife Village Realtors and musicians Hector Toro and Ricky Small on the streets on State, Ed and his blues band  played on the corner of Roosevelt all infusing talent into the village atmosphere.

The Endangered Speciez performed and stunned the Village Faire sponsors located at; The Phantom Gallery,  Renaissance Institute of Music, Lynn Forbes Sculpture  and  Oceanside Art Gallery  .  All had receptions and recitals open to the public.  At the Oceanside Art Gallery reception, “I found myself dancing and my guests loved it, we have to keep this going, this was fun!” remarked owner Mary Villela..

Restaurants,  Branci Coldo Pomorado and Les Passage had customers who wandered the streets after dinner to see what was happening about town and laughter and smiles filled the evening.  Artist, Linda Melvin, in the 10 Hour Gallery, reported speaking to so many people that she lost count, but specifically recalled a conversation with a gentlemen from Kentucky, who was staying at one of the local hotels attending a convention stating, “they don’t have anything like this in Kentucky where I come from, this great”!

Shop owners  of Lavender Blu Boutique, Paradise Cottage, Olde Ivy Antiques and Liberty Tax are looking forward to the return and anticipation of more visitors in the village. Vickie Kays owner, Sie Yu reported increase sales and visitors to her shop and is “looking forward to April”, she stated.  More shops will be staying open affording late shopping and the cooperation of the sponsors are making this event happen. Encouraging new sponsors to come on board, recently Snyder Art and The COAL Gallery have stepped in for next month,  so don’t miss out on next month’s event with more stores open, shopping, fine dining, musicians and artists ready to entertain you as you shop and dine, and enjoy the evening.

ABOUT ANDREA J’NEENE TEAM: Andrea J’Neene Team has been creating art since she was very young. Undaunted by lack of supplies, she drew on brown paper grocery sacks with pens by the phone, rummaged through tossed out sewing scraps, and found objects out of doors. With a degree in art and trained as an art educator, she spent time as a fiber artist. In 1999 she picked up a paint brush, and has been painting obsessively ever since. In 2001 she became the artist in residence at Kelly Elementary School in Carlsbad. A resident artist at the Foundry Studios at New Village Arts since October of 2010, she enjoys the creative synergy of being in a group of artists.

ABOUT THE NEW VILLAGE ARTS FOUNDRY:
The Art Foundry was established in August of 2009 by New Village Arts Theatre in the Village of Carlsbad. Housing 14 working artists’ studios with 16 artists in residence, The Foundry has become a unique, interesting and exciting place to create and view art and the process of making art.

A foundry is a place where things are forged, made and created. It is a place where things begin as raw materials and are transformed into something else, which is the basis of all art.
