Thursdays on the Coast Artwalk Halloween Scene

Thursdays night artwalk in Carlsbad ended it's 2011 series with high spirits and excitement for 2012.

Thanks to the advertising from our October sponsor, the Carlsbad Innthe kids  arrived and produced a banner for the Halloween on Elm street event that was held on Saturday was donated to sponsor Gary Nessim of Homelife Village Realtors.  Kids were laughing,  and people were browsing as the stores light up for the occasion.

Carlsbad Village Association Board Members, Justin Jachura, owner of Senor Grubby's and Jon Wontz were manning the booth and ready to direct the traffic to all participating locations. While the New Village Arts Foundry was holding and interactive art session with wonderful music and reception with studio artists attending.

The Phantom Art Gallery held art and story reading of their artists art.  A book being done for their gallery while the COAL hosted a reception along with Lynn Forbes Sculpture Studio.

The Village rocked with Mark and his band a new comer and artist on the block, and favorites Rick and Carm returned to brightened up the Vintage Bistro with song bird Janice Thompson providing the atmosphere  for the Carlsbad Chocolate Bar.  Creating the atmosphere for what was to follow down the streets for the evening with Branci Caldo and more

Visitors Phil and Susan Stone "this is such a great event my kids and husband loved it!.... such a great way to spend the evening".

The evening rolled into fun, smile and excitement for all who attended and the youth art took center stage with Picassos Garden Studios  students art work by instructors T. Margaurite and Andrea Team and The Stardust Arts display presented by Cheryl Ehlers and manned by a very proud parent Johnna Cotton of Oceanside.  While the artists filled the areas with color, drama and creations all to the amazement of many  visitors it was enjoyed by all.

As the evening rolled on KV and the Blues Academy took the stage to mojoe...the way into the evening with fantastic rock and roll oldies that placed a jiving mood in the Village Faire Plaza.  If your toes were not tapping you certainly were in the wrong place to celebrate the close of the 2011 season.  It certainly got you into the mood for wanting just some more time and light to enjoy more of the evening.

As the evening came to a close, and the dew filled the night air, the evening winded down to a close you could hear the echos of the evening spirits, the electricity lingered in the air as the music of KV and the Blues Academy played on to the close.  Singing,  Oh Carol don't let me steal your night away."

The New Village Arts, Foundry Studios Presents "Visual Jazz"

Featured Artist: Sheryl Tempchin

Sheryl Tempchin studied art at Palomar College, UCLA, and the Otis Art Institute of Los Angeles. She is a member of the San Diego Art Institute where her paintings frequently appear in the regional shows. She has also shown her work in a number of galleries around San Diego county including the First Street Gallery and the Civic Center Gallery in Encinitas, and the Front Porch Gallery in Carlsbad.

"I don't think being an artist is something you choose. You do it because you have no choice. I am compelled by forces I don't really understand to make physical representations of elusive ephemeral things that can't really be physically represented, and yet I have to try. It doesn't matter if it's representational or abstract. The impulse is the same--to try to capture the fleeting, changing energy and rhythm of something that moves inside me in response to the world."

HomeLife Village Realtors & Art Gallery presents:

Glass Artist, Carol Korfin
Carlsbad, July 8, 2011, In a little know art enclave in Carlsbad, HomeLife Village Realtors & Art Gallery has a real surprise for visitors.  They have art incorporated into their business.  A gallery within, that has 7 artists.  One of which is  Carol Korfin – a.k.a. The Glass Giraffe.
Featured for the month of August 201 and creating one-of-a-kind fused glass art, Carol Korfin chose her company name by “fusing” her love of all things giraffe with her love of glass art.  She has a giraffe collection numbering over 150 pieces in her home.

Living in San Diego since 1981, she has been driven by passion for designing.  Carol became hooked on glass and began creating more pieces than her hands (and kiln) could handle.  Each glass art piece is created and designed from a wonderful imagination using the finest quality glass.  Using  a variety of glass types – such as translucent, opaque, dichroic, iridescent, frit, millefiore, confetti, rods, stringers and noodles, her pieces are limited only by what imagination inspires and the size of her  kiln, which happens to be pretty big.

Pendants, bowls, wall creations and decorative pieces are created for the most discerning buyer and can be found year-round  in several galleries in San Diego County.

Currently in the Art Gallery at HomeLife Village, Carlsbad, you can enjoy the window display filled with glass art , the Off Track Gallery, located in the Lumberyard Center, Encinitas and The Find Gallery in the Fallbrook Art Center, Fallbrook, CA, also house her collections.  Come by and browse a multitude of creations and muse at the reflections in the glass.
Stop by, on July 28th for Thursdays at the Coast-Artwalk,  which is presented by Homelife Village Realtors & Art Gallery located at 500 Grand Ave., Carlsbad, CA

Nancy Parkinson Bruce , Exhibition at the COAL Art Gallery, June 2011

Nancy Parkinson Bruce an award-winning artist Carlsbad resident regularly shows at the COAL.  Ms. Bruce considers herself to be very fortunate having spent most of her life surrounded by beauty.  Born and raised in Colorado, she also spent several years in Utah and Alaska before finally moving to Southern California, where she began her 28-year career of teaching art and photography to junior and senior high school kids.

She is a graduate from Colorado University at Boulder with a degree in Art, and also holds a Master’s Degree from San Diego State University.  She has also continued honing her talents through years of teaching, practice, workshops and courses at the college level.  She has studied with well-known artists including Tony Richards for printmaking, the nationally renowned watercolor artist, Zoltan Szabo, as well as abstract artists including Risë Parberry and Pat Dew, among others.

As an artist, she has been on a journey exploring different mediums, her most recent being abstract paintings in acrylic.   Prior to this obsession with acrylics, Ms. Bruce worked in watercolor and continues to share her passion for watercolor through teaching at the Carlsbad Senior Center.  For many years, while painting with watercolors, Ms. Bruce also learned the ancient craft of printmaking.  This process involves etching a picture from a metal plate.  Intricate designs are literally carved out of the metal surface and bathed in acid to create what will eventually become a textured plate used in a special hand-turned printing press; each layer of color is printed separately.

Stop by and visit Nancy Parkinson Bruce and her exhibiton through the month of June 2011.

LIFE IS A JOURNEY

Presented by The New Village Arts, featured paintings by Foundry artist, T. Marguerite will be on exhibit as a part of the monthly ART BY CANDLELIGHT show presented as part of the Thursdays on the Coast: The Experience Art Walk in the Village of Carlsbad. Thursday, May 26 from 5:30-8:30pm, with Music by The BIGFELLAS  “San Diego's Best Local Band" (U-T Readers Poll)
T.Marguerite’s fascination with art began as a very young child in preschool. Big fat crayons and building blocks abounded, filling her senses. She discovered oil painting at age 7 at the Sawdust Festival while vacationing in Laguna Beach. At age 9 she began oil painting at Arlington Art Studio’s spending several years there. Forced to paint realistic landscapes and still life from what she calls “dreary painting manuals” she eventually rebelled against realism. She found a kindred spirit in Emerson’s “Art” essay quote: “In fine arts not imitation but creation is the aim. In a portrait the painter must inscribe the character and not the features, in landscape a suggestion of a fairer creation than we know.” In fact passion for reading has introduced her many influences including Dali, De Chirico & Picasso.

Trisha is very grateful to have her new studio in The Art Foundry @ NVA and looks forward to surrounding herself with like minded people. She hopes to learn, develop and grow as an artist while working hard to take her art to the next new and exciting place.

Work by the 17 resident artists will also be on display at the New Village Arts Theatre Art Foundry, 2787 State Street in the Carlsbad Village, and there will be a “Create Your Own Art” area for attendees to indulge their inner artistic spirit!
