How's It Hanging, Abstract paintings by Curt Barker
Artist Reception: September 22, 2011 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM and Exhibit runs from September 22 to October 18
Curt Barker began painting in 1989 while a college student in Paris; the museums of Europe his artistic kindergarten. His work is typically non-representational, but frequently abstract images will emerge. The result is a sort of psychological ink-blot test (only much more colorful) as each viewer sees something different.
Curt’s current project, entitled How's It Hangin'?, invites viewers to vote on which way is up. The exhibit features 27 abstract paintings of various sizes but all with the same shape ... square. A square canvas lends itself well to the question, "which way is up?" Not just the four sides are potentially the "top," but also each of the four corners. This allows the viewer to see something different with each variation in alignment. One painting can provide eight distinct interpretations.
